The greatest distance covered by a male cyclist in one hour is 56.792 kilometres (35.288 miles), achieved by Filippo Ganna (Italy) at the Velodrome Suisse in Grenchen, Switzerland, on 8 October 2022.

Ganna, an Olympic gold medallist and four-time world champion in the individual pursuit, broke the record of 55.548 km set by Daniel Bigham on 19 August 2022. Bigham is a performance engineer for the Ineos Grenadiers, Ganna’s own cycling team. Ganna also eclipsed Chris Boardman's “Best Human Effort” record of 56.375 km from 1996, which was set using the so-called “Superman” aerodynamic riding position later banned by the UCI.
