According to a UNICEF report, top-league footballer Marta Vieira da Silva (Brazil) – more commonly known as Marta – earned $1 million (£670,000) in 2014, making her the highest-earning female footballer in the world. She currently plays for FC Rosengård in Sweden. This is a long way short of her male counterpart, the highest-earning male footballer: Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) earned an estimated $80 million (£53.6 million) in 2013–14.
