First unsupported snowkite crossing of East and West Antarctica

The first unsupported snowkite crossing of East and West Antarctica was achieved by Rolf Bae, Eirik Sønneland (both Norway), on the 5 February 2001.
The two member Norwegian team comprising Rolf Bae and Eirik Sonneland of the Norwegian Antarctic Expedition arrived at the South Pole December 20th, 2000)exactly 2 months after setting out from the Norwegian Troll Base in Dronning Maud Land where they had over-wintered.
Almost another 2 months passed before they reached Williams Field, the ice runway on McMurdo Sound. They remained at nearby Scott Base recuperating until 13th February, when they were picked up and shipped to New Zealand, ready to fly home to Norway where the two Norwegians were presented with flowers and also special Champion medals normally only given to returning Olympic Gold Medal Winners.
