More than $3 million (£1.87 million) of the $200-million (£125-million) budget for Titanic (US 1997) went towards the movie's stunts. In the most complex scene, 100 stuntpeople leapt, fell and slid 21 m (70 ft) as the ship broke in half and rose out of the water to a 90° angle.

The exterior shooting set for the film was 236.22m (775ft) long, ten percent smaller than the actual vessel.

The tank in which the set was sunk spread over seven acres and could hold 77 million litres (17 million gallons) of sea water. A total of 22 million litres (five million gallons) of filtered sea water was pumped in to flood the interior sets.
