First £1 million women's football transfer

The first £1 million women's football transfer was paid by Arsenal WFC to Liverpool FCW for Olivia Smith (Canada) on 17 July 2025.

Smith made her Canada debut at just 15 years 94 days old and went on to be twice named Canada Soccer’s Young Player of the Year (2019/2024). Her rising stock was built on a stellar season in Portugal - where she was scored 13 goals and made 9 assists for Sporting CP - and a standout debut WSL campaign with Liverpool, where she scored seven league goals in 20 appearances.

The million-pound fee surpassed the previous highest fee of £880,000 ($1,100,000) which Chelsea FCW paid to San Diego Wave FC for Naomi Girma (USA) earlier in 2025.
