Largest collection of maps

The largest collection of maps belongs to the United States Library of Congress in Washington, DC, USA. As of 13 January 2020, the collection contained 5.5 million catalogued items.

The Library of Congress's Geography and Map Division owns many important historic maps, including Martin Waldseemüller's 1507 map of the world, which was the first map to show America as a named, separate continent. It paid $10 million (£0.689 million) for this map in 2001, making it the most expensive map ever.
