First 3D-printed laboratory

The first 3D printed laboratory was achieved by Dubai Water & Electricity Authority DEWA (UAE), in Dubai, UAE on 27 September 2021.

This project was intended to test a novel automated construction technique based on the concept of 3D printing applied to an entire building. The idea was to use a printer realized with a large industrial-scale mechanical arm equipped with a system to deposit cement. The use of a mechanical arm allowed to directly cover multiple meters of the build area and, by periodically repositioning it, it could build the envelope of the building.
