The greatest virtual distance on a static cycle in 12 hours (female) is 484.4 km (300.9 miles), achieved by Kim Willocks (Australia) in Victoria, Australia, on 3 July 2021.

Kim used the program Zwift to complete this attempt. She continued cycling for a further 12 hours and also achieved the greatest virtual distance on a static cycle in 24 hours (female) with 955.9 km (593.9 miles).

Kim has always been strong at endurance sports, and having spent a lot of time on the indoor bike during the Covid-19 lockdowns, she felt confident she could ride at a fast speed for long periods of time and attempt a record. In preparation for the attempt, she rode around 6 times per week and completed two specific long-distance rides (7.5 hr and 9 hr) to test her endurance.

The double attempt itself ran smoothly. The biggest challenge was to keep eating after 14 hours as mental and physical fatigue kicked in. Kim credits her friends and family for helping her to push through. Her recovery after the attempt took around two weeks.

On achieving the record, she said "It's an amazing feeling having scrolled through the record books as a child. Now I have 3 kids of my own and they are just as excited as me!"
